From the Bride: Marcus and I met in Nashville, Tennessee June 2013. Both of us knew who each other were through mutual friends, but had never met before then. Marcus made it his mission to show me Nashville and in turn, I grew to love the city as my home. We were engaged December 30th at The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville which was so fitting given our great love of music and the site of many memories for us. Both being from Kentucky and recently relocating to Houston, Texas, there was a strong pull to make everything about our wedding feel like our Kentucky home. The bride is originally from Louisville and one of the groom’s main passions is horse racing. This is why we chose The Hermitage in Goshen. It is a working horse farm which made it perfect for our wedding especially to share Kentucky with our out of town guests. From the rolling hills of bluegrass to the horses in the pastures, the setting couldn’t have fit us better. We were married in front of the main farmhouse where our guests sat in old church pews brought in for the ceremony. Our cocktail hour was in the back of the house with old bourbon barrels for cocktail tables and vintage furniture for those that wanted to sit. Shrimp and grits in mason jars, fried green tomatoes and hot brown wontons were passed. The bugler from Churchill Downs played My Old Kentucky Home to signal it was time for everyone to move into the reception area. He then announced us with Call to the Post into the reception which was so neat! Southern fare was served on long farm tables. Our band was Super T out of Nashville, TN. My dad, who was the original drummer for The Monarchs (a Louisville band from the 1960s) played with the band during the party. Around 11pm, white castles were passed to close down the night. It was an amazing time full of local and personal touches which made us so grateful to be from Kentucky and to be able to share it with those we love!
